Surviving the Modern World with Gong Bath

Updated: Mar 10, 2020

From the moment we are born, we are all sponges – learning new skills, absorbing energies, experiences, emotions, patterning, reactions and conditioning.

Emotions, traumas, events and reactions that we do not even remember, have no conscious recollection of, are all stored within the cellular memory of our bodies– all contributing to how we live, act and respond in todays society.

We also have to take into account that certain emotions and traumas can be inherited - passed onto us through our family ancestral lines - absorbing patterning through no choice of our own.   So, whether our entry into this world is smooth or turbulent, every moment and memory of our upbringing – be it harmonious, joyful, sad or fearful – is stored within the cells of our body.

Often, these past experiences, even past injuries as well as poor health habits, lay dormant for many years - until something comes along and triggers a reaction. This is when a memory of an event or past trauma causes us to have a physical reaction and can result in physical pain and illness within the body.

Now add to this the effects of modern day living and survival. The need for shelter, food and money – plus other circumstances that impact our wellbeing - such work, 24/7 communication, time constraints, travel, pressure, relationships, family, grief, separation and loss. In this discordant world, there is a continuous force on us all outperform, succeed and generally ‘take more on’. Momentum just keeps on going.

We all have different tolerance levels and coping mechanisms but for many of us, our minds become over-active with constant chatter that even trying to ‘switching off’ becomes just another task.

Often, we try to pick ourselves up with stimulants such as coffee, fast food and sugar but these are just quick fixes because in the end, a challenged mind - lacking sleep, eventually become overwhelmed and burnt out. This in turn results in illness, anxiety, stress and often depression. It’s a vicious wheel and our Autonomic Nervous system goes into overdrive. The body fights so much that in the end it forgets the flight aspect altogether. Does this all sound familiar?

All is not lost! There are positives for living in this modern world in that through knowledge, awareness and communication and the likely source of social media (yes, it has a positive aspect), we can slowly start awaken and recognise the importance of taking responsibility for ourselves and for our personal health and wellbeing. The key word that we are all beginning to appreciate is Balance and Mindfulness.

Through our new awareness and appreciation for life, alternative therapies are much more at the forefront of our minds although the ironic thing is, is that most healing modalities are ancient!

So now, as responsible individuals - we are happy to explore alternative ‘holistic’ options and embrace the thought of peace, balance, good and renewed health. Although it is not often mentioned, the alternative path can mean making peace with the past and learning to let go – which is not always smooth going.

All healing modalities and holistic therapies work with and positively affect human energy system and are all aimed at harmonising your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies.Afterall, we are all made of energy and energy is supposed to flow freely around our bodies.

All of our tissues, cells, organs, and emotions have their own unique frequency - including the not so nice stuff as sickness, disease, depression and stress - which causes us humans to vibrate at a lower frequency.

All organs within our body are tuned to one another and all of our cells have a working ‘rhythm’.   If one of these organs become out of sync - loses its rhythm, then the organ can experience a restriction in its functioning, and we can become off balance.

Which leads me onto how you can benefit from Sound Therapy such as a Sound and Gong Bath.

When sound and vibration penetrate the energy system, it passes through the ear canal into the auditory cortex, which is the part of the brain that processes sound. The Vagus Nerve –

also known as the ‘wandering verve’ is the longest nerve of the autonomonic nervous system and is one of the most important nerves in the body. It starts in the brain and travels all the way down touching most major organs within body. It controls the inner nerve centre – the Parasympathetic nervous system. The role of the Vagus nerve is to help regulate many critical aspects of human physiology, including the heart rate, blood pressure, sweating, digestion, and even speaking. When stimulated often, the Vagus nerve strengthens.

During a Gong bath or sound therapy session, several reactions take place once the sound is received. At the cellar level, vibration and sound will help with the transference of oxygen and nutrients through the body - aiding circulation and making cells larger and healthier - boosting our immune system. Feel good hormones are released such as endorphins – which elevate our mood, Dopamine for feeling focussed - and serotonin. Serotonin helps regulate mood, appetite, digestion, sleep, memory, and sexual desire.  Oxytocin counter balances ‘cortisol’ (Cortisol is the stress hormone) and Oxytocin has a calming effect which leaves you feeling tranquil.

If conducted correctly, a gong bath will take your overactive, tired and conscious mind from busy Beta state to a meditative Theta – where your mind can and body can repair.

The deep and rhythmic oscillating sounds of a Gong and sound bath will silence the mind of chatter and reboot the nervous system - allowing your organs to find their natural rhythm once more, which enables you to let go of stress, worries, anxieties, doubts, fears and feelings that have a negative effect on your health.

In essence, a Gong and Sound Bath will:-

· Stimulate circulation and blood flow

Attending a monthly gong bath can be totally transformative once you have made the commitment to put yourself first.

As an accredited sound healing practitioner, I have a duty to create a safe space which permits for past hurt, emotions, thoughts and memories to surface and be released as gently as possible. Every action, hand gesture, sound and vibration has an intention and process behind it.

When facilitating any sound therapy session or group Gong Bath session, all participants and their emotions are nurtured and supported. I consider it an honour to be able to witness such transformation within everyone that attends.
